Vinoble is proud to be the importer of Cantina del Pino Hong Kong. It is a small estate of seven hectares, located in the Ovello area of the town of Barbaresco in the Piedmonte region of Italy. The name Cantina del Pino is a tribute to the 130 year old pine tree that stands next to the winery, planted by the illustrious Domizio Cavazza, the previous owner of the estate. The estate has been owned by the Vacca family for four generations. The vineyards are concentrated around the Ovello hill, a site known for its combination of cooler microclimate and poor soils (limestone with sandy veins and a high calcium content) which give structured, age-worthy Barbarescos. Cantina del Pino’s vineyards are managed by Renato Vacca and his father Adriano directly, and they take pride in their practice of not using chemical fertilization, pesticides nor herbicides. Adriano was one of the founding members of the cooperative Produttori del Barbaresco, and for many years the family sold its grapes to the cooperative. In 1997, after completing winemaking school and five years of working experience at the cooperative, Renato and Adriano decided to leave the cooperative and strike out on their own. Cantina del Pino has been vinifying its own grapes ever since. The winery produces a delicious, deeply fruity Dolcetto, a robust, full-bodied Barbera that is aged 14 months in oak, and three elegant Barbarescos. The Barbaresco Classico, Barbaresco Ovello and Barbaresco Albesani are aged in oak for two years and then one to two years in the bottle.
