The eighth edition of Tio Pepe En Rama has been described as "Vivoy Salváje" (lively and wild). For the 2017 edition, 100 Fino barrels were chosen by winemaker Antonio Flores in October 2016. This selection was narrowed down to 60 casks where the flor turned out to be tremendously powerful in springtime. Each year a different, yet authentic label is selected, the design based on original art sourced from Tio Pepe's historical files, dating back into the late 1800's. On the nose, fine as ever, bottled at the pinnacle of flor development. Tons of green and yellow oranges, yeasty dough and identifying vanilla notes. Fresh and plump, with good acetaldehydes, traces of salt and straw. On the palate, flor and more flor, possibly a bit rounder and creamier than preceding decades. Definitely less extreme than the nose however. Typical hay and almond bitterness, very dry and dry. Hints of fruit underneath (mainly apple). Salty notes, hints of olive brine. It is packed with flavour.
